These are selections from a large collection of Polish fairy tales made by A. J. Glinski, printed at Wilna in 1862. The tales represent folklore from the peasantry of Eastern Poland and White Russia, set down as related by the peasants. The translation shortens the original, removing repetitive elements while preserving the essence. The stories share similarities with German, Celtic, and Indian folklore, and are longer but rewarding to listen to.

They were set down by Glinski just as they were related to him by the peasan
